The NADRA Marriage Registration Certificate (MRC) is an official computerized document issued by Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). It includes essential details about the marriage and serves as a legal proof of marital status both domestically and internationally. The MRC is available in both Urdu and English formats, which makes it widely accepted for purposes like immigration, visas, and other official requirements.
The Nikkah Nama is the traditional Urdu document prepared during the marriage ceremony and includes signatures from the bride, groom, witnesses, and the Nikkah Khawan (officiant). However, the NADRA Marriage Certificate is a computerized, standardized document that officially records the marriage with NADRA and is required for various legal and administrative processes. The NADRA certificate is obtained based on the details in the Nikkah Nama.
To apply, you will need the following:
Original Nikkah Nama (Urdu Marriage Certificate)
Copies of the CNICs (Computerized National Identity Cards) of the bride, groom, and their
fathers
CNIC copy of the Nikkah Khawan (officiant)
Passports for foreign nationals (if applicable)
The application can be submitted at authorized locations based on your area of residence. Typically, you would apply at your local Union Council office, TMA (Tehsil Municipal Administration) office, Cantonment Board Office (for cantonment residents), or Arbitration Council in Islamabad.
The processing time varies depending on the location and administrative load but generally ranges between 3-5 working days. Some delays might occur, so it’s best to check directly with your local issuing office for exact timing.
